Equities on Friday extended further gains amid sluggish trading trend on the Lahore Stock Exchange, as investors remained on the sideline ahead of weekend. The LSE-25 index gained 27.97 points and was ended at 5370.56 against 5342.59 of Thursday while trading turnover was squeezed to 848,500 shares compared with day earlier volume of 1.428 million shares.
The market was opened on a healthy note and stayed in green zone during the entire day. The investors made entries in select scrips like Mari Petroleum, PPL, Byco Petroleum, Tri-Pack Films, Honda Atlas Cars, Dewan Motors, MCB Bank, Askari Bank, National Bank, Nishat Mills, Nishat Chunian, Highnoon Laboratories, Glaxo Smith Kline and Burshane LPG that helped market sentiments. However, because of profit taking was also seen in few companies including Fauji Cement, Kohinoor Textile Mills, Soneri Bank, Faysal Bank and Silk Bank witnessed marginal declines. The advancing stocks were ahead of the declining ones, as out of a total of 115 active issues, 45 companies posted gains, five registered losses while 65 companies stayed glued to their overnight closing.
Mari Petroleum gained Rs 25.92, Tri-Pack Films was improved by Rs 11.92, Honda Atlas Cars was appreciated by Rs 6.39 while MCB Bank and Nishat Mills were up by Rs 5.33 and Rs 5.19, respectively. In the minus column, Fauji Cement shed 35-paisa, Kohinoor Textile Mills was declined by 30-paisa while Soneri Bank lost 19-paisa. Bank of Punjab with trading of 272,000 shares topped the volume leaders followed by Dewan Farooq Motors with 121,500 shares.
