National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has slashed tariff of K-Electric by Rs 1.73 per unit for April, May and June 2014 (April-June quarter) under quarterly fuel adjustment mechanism. According to the notification issued by the regulator, tariff for April has been reduced by 61 paisa per unit, 81 paisa for May and 31 paisa per unit for June 2014.
The relief of reduction in tariff will be passed on to the consumers in December 2014 January and February 2015. Nepra will hear a fuel adjustment charge petition of K-Electric for July- September 2014 quarter next week in Karachi. Fuel cost of K-Electric was reduced by Rs 2.5 billion in April, May and June 2014. K-Electric which depends on thermal generation produced 1.3349 billion units in April, 1.5361 units in May and 1.5554 units in June, respectively.
