The 137th birth anniversary of great poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal is being observed across the country on Sunday (today) with traditional zeal and enthusiasm. Pakistan Navy contingent would take positions outside the Iqbal tomb replacing Pakistan Rangers. Later people hailing from different walks of life would visit the Mazar-e-Iqbal to pay homage. A delegation of Punjab University led by Acting VC Professor Dr Ehsan Malik, will visit mausoleum of Allama Iqbal to pay tribute and offer Fateha for the departed soul.
National flag will be hoisted on all major government buildings. Newspapers will bring out special supplements while TV and radio channels will present special programmes dedicated to the life and achievements of the national poet. Social, literary and educational institutions have planned to organise various programmes to highlight the poetic, literary, educational, social and political contribution of the thinker who aroused revolutionary spirit in the nation through his poetry.
Quran Khawani will be held at Iqbal Manzil, the birth place of the great poet. An exhibition of the ancient and rare pictures and books on Allama Iqbal will be held at Iqbal Manzil for public to pay rich tributes to the great poet and philosopher. In Lahore, ECO Cultural Institute (ECI) Tehran in collaboration with Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Aiwan-e-Iqbal Complex is holding an International Iqbal Conference at Aiwan-e-Iqbal Complex Egerton Road Lahore.
Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar will preside over the conference while Federal Minister for Information Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rasheed will be the chief guest. Scholars from the ECO member countries would participate in the conference and pay tribute to the National Poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
Nazria Pakistan Trust and Tehreek-e-Pakistan Workers Trust will also hold Iqbal Day function here at Aiwan-e-Karkunana Tehreek-e-Pakistan. Former president Rafiq Tarar will preside while former chief minister Sindh Syed Ghous Ali Shah will be the chief guest. Former Justice Nasira Javed Iqbal, Begum Bushra Rehman, Pir Syed Mohammad Kabir Shah, Sultan Ahmed Ali, Dr Ajmal Niazi, Waleed Iqbal and others will also attend function.
