Members of the Christian community, activists of civil society and political parties staged a joint protest demonstration outside the local press club on Sunday to condemn the killing of a Christian couple in Kot Radha Kishan Kasur district.
The protest demonstration headed by Pakistan People's Party Minority Wing, provincial president Yasir Bhatti, Samuel Griffin, pastor Tanzil, Mahfooz Masih, Saleem Rahim, Gulzar Masih, and activists of Pakistan Minority Alliance and civil society. The protesters were holding placards and banner inscribed with against the brutal killing of the Christian couple and the provincial government of Punjab.
The demonstrators termed the killing of the couple over alleged blasphemy a brutal act and urged the government to take steps to end the misuse of the blasphemy laws and the murderers of alleged blasphemy accused couple must be brought to justice. They viewed that the blasphemy laws have been blamed for much of the persecution against Christians in Pakistan and in a bid to increasing inter-religious tensions across the country.
The protesters expressed their discontent and blamed the blasphemy laws for constant persecution of Christians in Pakistan, particularly in Sindh and Punjab provinces. They viewed that a Muslim mob tortured the Christian couple to death, mere a dispute of debt, but the incident was attached with religious hatred.
About the recent investigations into the killing of Christian couple, they said: "We do not trust the investigations because in a number of examples aggressors were set free after being investigated despite being found guilty. They asked the government to take steps to end the misuse of blasphemy laws in the country.
They demanded the Chief Justice of Supreme Court, the Prime Minister and the government of Punjab to take stern action against killers of the Christian couple and give them exemplary punishment.
Meanwhile, activists of the United Christian Movement held a protest demonstration against killing of a couple over alleged blasphemy at Kot Radha Kishan in Punjab. They demanded the government to take steps to end the misuse of the blasphemy laws, and murderers of the blasphemy accused couple must be brought to justice.
They said the killing incident of the Christian couple was an insult to humanity, as the entire nation recognised and described it as worst kind of cruelty.
The law, which has been enacted with aim to protect human being, was maliciously adopted in the country, they regretted.
