Argentina Embassy on Monday hosted a solo exhibition of recent works of Artist Maria Martha Pichel, here at Embassy. The exhibition was inaugurated by Ambassador of Argentina Rodolfo J Martin Saravia by cutting ribbon. A number of diplomats, politicians and representatives of civil society visited the exhibition.
In his welcome address, Ambassador of Argentina said that it was the tenth exhibition which his embassy held. The Ambassador said he and his embassy staff was trying to promote Argentina through arts and culture, adding art has no barriers unlike language. He further said that Pakistani people has not only apatite for political debates as well as for culture of foreign countries.
He admired the artist paintings depicting tango, horses, landscapes and ships etc. Argentine born, Maria Martha Pichel is predominantly a figurative artist depicting the movement and music of Argentina. Her paintings of lovers embraced in the sensual steps of the Argentine tango, has made her a most sought after painter. Pichel's work has been critiqued by professionals as "highly painterly". She has had solo exhibitions in Germany, France, Italy, Argentina, Brazil, and the United States.
Maria since her beginnings the human figure predominates in all its forms in her works, with visible expressionist feature. She debuts with her first exhibition in 1982 at the Soudan Gallery, the following year she starts working as a draftswoman at the Favaloro Foundation, illustrating for anatomy and cardiovascular surgery books; she then is granted a scholarship to study at the Center of Visual Arts of Buenos Aires. She participated in four exhibitions in Pakistan: Islamabad in 2007, Lahore at the Shakir Ali Museum April in 2007, in Islamabad Argentine Embassy in October 2009 and in Lahore at the Alhamra Art Gallery in October 2009 and at Karachi in December 2010.
