Romania's Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean submitted his resignation Monday following fierce criticism over the handling of a presidential vote that saw thousands of Romanians abroad unable to cast a ballot. Corlatean said in a statement he had informed the prime minister of his decision but did not accept blame for the voting woes in the first round of the presidential election on November 2.
Thousands of Romanians living in countries like France, Germany and the United Kingdom were unable to cast their ballots because of a shortage of polling stations. About 10,000 protesters took to the streets in Romania on Saturday to accuse the government of "hobbling" the vote of Romanians abroad.
