The rupee moved both ways against the dollar on the local currency market on Tuesday, dealers said. The rupee picked up 10-paisa versus the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 101.65 and Rs 101.70 respectively, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee, however, shed 20-paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 101.40 and Rs 101.60 respectively. It also extended its overnight gains, rising 25-paisa in terms of the euro for buying and selling at Rs 125.75 and Rs 126.00 respectively, they said.
In the second Asian trade, the dollar steadied after recouping some of its post-payrolls losses as an up tick in risk appetite sent US Treasury yields higher and underpinned Wall Street stocks. The greenback kept to a narrow range with the US bond market - a key driver of the currency - closed on Tuesday for the Veterans Day holiday.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 61.53, the US currency was available at 3.3430 versus the Malaysian ringgit and the greenback was at 6.1199 in terms of the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee maintained upward slide and was further improved by 50-paisa in relation to the greenback on the local currency market on Tuesday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading on a negative sign and kept on moving down due to selling pressure. At close, the dollar was ended at Rs 101.25 and Rs 101.50 as its buying and selling rate against Rs 101.75 and Rs 102.00 of Monday, respectively, the dealers said.
Similarly, the rupee showed strength and extended further gain against the British pound. The pound's buying and selling rates were declined from overnight closing of Rs 160.75 and Rs 161.00 to Rs 160.25 and Rs 160.50, respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Tuesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 103 (buying) and Rs 103.10 (selling) against same overnight rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 103 (buying) and Rs 103.10 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 164 (buying) and Rs 164.10 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 164 (buying) and Rs 164.10 (selling).
