ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has apprehended Chairman Saaf Pani Company Engineer Qamar-ul-Islam Raja and former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Saaf Pani Company Waseem Ajmal here on Monday.
According to a press release, Engineer Qamarul Islam Raja has been accused of awarding contracts of 84 illegal Water Treatment Plants to favorites on higher rates. In the water plants, NAB said there were 56 reverse osmosis plants and 28 ultra filtration plants.
The water plants were to be installed in four Tehsils including Hasilpur, Manchan Abad, Khanpur and Lodhran. Qamar-ul-Islam Raja enhanced the estimates of mounts in bidding documents with ulterior motives.
The accused Qamar-ul-Islam Raja had awarded the contract to KSP Pumps company as incharge procurement committee. He approved the contract of 102 water filtration plants to KSP pumps after getting approval from board of directors and also contract documents.
Waseem Ajmal was accused of changing the documents of Saaf Pani Company after completion of bidding of projects which was against Punjab Procurement Rules 2014.
Waseem Ajmal installed 8 filtration plants illegally at Tehsil Dunyapur whereas the area was not included in the contracts and also changed the clauses of contracts in collaboration with consultants.
Waseem Ajmal paid Rs 24.7 million to Ali and Fatima Private Limited without getting the approval of board of directors. He paid office rent without even getting the possession of the office.
According to NAB, the appointment of Waseem Ajmal as CEO was illegal that too without approval of BoD. Both the accused would be presented before the accountability court for remand.
