At least two Pakistani nationals have gone missing in western Herat province of Afghanistan, local officials said on Wednesday. The two Pakistani nationals were reportedly working for a fibre optic project in southern Kandahar province. A local security official said the individuals went missing along with one of their Afghan counterpart from Shindand district.
A security official speaking on the condition of anonymity said all three individuals went missing from Azizabad village late on Tuesday, Khaama press reported. The official further added that a search operation has been launched to find the missing individuals. In the meantime, local residents in the area said that the two Pakistani nationals and their Afghan colleague have possibly been kidnapped. Herat is among the relatively volatile provinces in western Afghanistan where anti-government armed militant groups are actively operating in its remote districts.
