Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information & Higher Education, Mushtaq Ahmad Ghanni said on Tuersday that operation clean-up would soon be initiated in four public sector universities of Peshawar to purge these institutions from arms and ammunition besides ensuring conducive and peaceful academic environment.
Presiding over a high level meeting of Vice Chancellors of Peshawar University, Agriculture University, University of Engineering and Technology and Islamia College University Peshawar, he strongly condemned clash among students that resulted in killing of a student of Agriculture University. The meeting reviewed the overall security situation at the universities and they approved a cleanup operation in the university's hostels against arms, ammunition's and outsiders. It was also decided that close circuit cameras would be installed at the four universities to monitor the overall activities and respond timely in case of any untoward situation.
The meeting also approved that students would take prior permission from respective Vice Chancellor if they want to organise any event in the jurisdiction of the university and would also get a written permission in case of any chief guest is invited from outside the university. The meeting further decided to constitute a Student Grievances Committee of students to look after their issues.
Meanwhile, the participants of the meeting were informed that an inquiry committee has been probing the tragic incident happened at Agriculture University, identifying the causes and fixing the responsibility for necessary action. The Provincial Minister noted on the occasion that the disputes amongst different groups of students at universities always disturb the academic environment besides causing bad name for the university.
