Bodies of 50 victims killed in a road accident near Khairpur were shifted to their native areas on Wednesday. Forty two bodies have been sent back to Swat, three bodies shifted to Battagram while another body has been shifted to native village in Mardan. On the other hand, 11 bodies have been shifted to Sohrab Goth area of Karachi.
The bus, with about 70 people, had left Swat Valley and was en route to the southern port city of Karachi when it collided head-on with the truck near Khairpur district in Sindh province on Tuesday, leaving at least 58 people dead and injuring several others. Deadly accidents are common on roads across Pakistan due to bad road infrastructure and rampant disregard of traffic laws. Over 9,000 road accidents are reported to the police every year, killing on average around 5,000 people, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
