Khairpur tragedy: PPP submits calling attention notice to National Assembly Secretariat

Pakistan People's Party (PPP) on Wednesday submitted a calling attention notice to the National Assembly Secretariat with regards to a shocking road accident on National Highway at Theri by-pass near district Khairpur, Sindh, which took 60 precious lives, including a large number of women and children.
According to a calling attention notice, "We would like to invite the attention of Minister for Communication to a shocking road accident on national highway at Theri By-pass near Khairpur, Sindh on November 11, 2014, which took precious lives of at least 60 persons including a large number of women and children is a matter of grave public concern."
It is unfortunate that such incidents have become routine matter in the recent past. These incidents mainly occur due to sheer negligence of authorities like NHA who are not able to maintain the highways at par with the international standards. Similarly, motorway/highway police's irresponsible attitude to allow overloaded vehicles to run on the roads and their inability to check over speeding by the drivers are among the major causes of such lethal accidents."
PPP members namely Dr Nafisa Shah, Ms Shazia Mari, Shagufta Jumani, Abdul Sattar Bachani and Nawab Ali Wasan submitted a notice to the National Assembly Secretariat related to the tragic road accident that took place on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a separate motion was also submitted by Dr Nafisa Shah to discuss the poor performance of the NHA, which led to this accident. According to the motion, "This House may discuss the performance of National Highway Authority especially with reference to massive rise in number of road accidents on the national highways that mainly occur due to inability of the NHA to maintain roads at par with International Standards."
