The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought a detailed report from the authorities concerned pertaining to steps taken so far against the purported negligence of the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) during a terrorist attack on Islamabad District Courts on March 3, 2014.
A three-member bench of Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk resumed the hearing of a suo motu case relating to indiscriminate firing and a suicide attack in Islamabad District Courts. During the course of hearing, the bench issued directives to Additional Attorney General for Pakistan Sajid Ilyas Bhatti to submit by December 10 a report pertaining to steps taken against the security personnel of LEAs over their negligence during a terrorist attack on Islamabad District courts.
Mohsin Kiani, President Islamabad High Court Bar Association, apprised the court that no action was taken against the officials of LEAs who showed negligence at the time of incident. He further said that judge of the Islamabad High Court Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiquie had made some recommendations in the inquiry report including payment of compensation.
Kiani added that some injured of the blast had been purchasing medicines for the last seven months were as the government was providing no money to them to buy medicines. However, Sajid Ilyas Bhatti submitted that the government was ready to pay money to the injured persons to purchase medicines, adding that such facility would be extended if medicines were not available in the hospitals.
He further said that as many as 47 LEA personnel were present at the time of the incident, saying a disciplinary action against them was in progress. He disclosed that services of two personnel had been terminated whereas three were put under suspension. Chief Justice Nasir ul Mulk observed that a senior police official should ensure his presence during the district court hours. The hearing of case was adjourned till December 10.
