The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday dismissed the petition of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) against alleged torture of its worker by law- enforcement agencies. The bench was headed by Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar dismissed the petition due to absence of the petitioner's counsel. The bench also observed that the medical board, constituted to conduct the medical examination of Fahad Aziz, a worker of MQM, did not reveal torture injuries.
In pursuance of the SHC order, the provincial health department had constituted a six-member bench comprising senior doctors and radiologists to conduct medical examination of Fahad Aziz. The party through its leader Dr Farooq Sattar, MQM worker Fahad Aziz and his father jointly filed a petition, submitting MQM and its workers were being targeted, adding that in past, about eight persons in Karachi had been killed extra-judicially, while about 45 persons were still missing.
Dr Faroogh Naseem on behalf of the petitioners had told the judges that the police picked up Fahad Aziz when he was on his route to his wedding, adding that he was detained by police who subjected him to torture and demanded gratification for his release.
