The Republic of Belarus opened its embassy here in Pakistan on Thursday to further promote bilateral relations, especially in the field of trade and economics. Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry and visiting Deputy Foreign Minister of Republic of Belarus Valentin Rybakov inaugurated the embassy jointly here at a simple ceremony on Thursday.
Andrei Ermolovich has been appointed first ambassador of Republic of Belarus to Pakistan, who was also present on the occasion. Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Valentin Rybakov, who especially came to Pakistan to participate in the opening of the embassy of his country, speaking briefly on this occasion said the decision to open an embassy in Islamabad was made by Alexander Lukashenko to further improve and strengthen relations with the two countries.
He said, "We are happy to be here in Islamabad." He said the embassy would be helpful in further promoting people-to-people relations, expanding trade and economic ties, relations in other fields including education, health, agriculture and other areas. The Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus said Bilateral Joint Trade Commission is being set up and its first meeting will be held in Belarus in early next year to find ways and means to further promote trade and economic ties between two countries. He said political consultation and dialogue at the level of leadership of two countries will also be increased following the opening of the embassy of Belarus in Pakistan.
