The Lahore High Court here on Thursday dismissed a petition seeking disqualification of Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif accused of Model Town killings. Earlier, a law officer told to the court that the petitioner could not appear in the court since the day he moved the petition. The law officer stated that Punjab CM had also immunity under Article 248 of the Constitution, so the petition against him was not maintainable and prayed to dismiss the same.
Misbah Sarwar advocate of Narowal submitted in his petition that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was involved in Model Town killings and the judicial commission headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najfi had also declared him responsible of killings. Being chief executive of the province, it was the responsibility of the Chief Minister to maintain law and order situation but he could not do so, he submitted. The petitioner pointed out that if any member of the Parliament is found guilty of disturbing law and order situation, he will lose his eligibility to be the member of the Parliament under Article 63 (1) g of the Constitution.
