Central Chairman APTMA S M Tanveer said on Thursday that successful negotiations of textile industry's representatives with the government have resulted into complete exemption from electricity loadshedding for the textile industry units on independent feeders from November 13, and immediate withdrawal of the gas suspension programme for the textile industry.
He said a textile industry delegation including representatives from the Hosiery, PTA and Processing Industry, under the leadership of Gohar Ejaz called on the Federal Ministers for Textile Industry, Commerce and Finance to apprise them about the plight of textile industry due to energy shortage in Punjab.
He said APTMA delegation comprised Wisal A Monnoo, Sheikh Muhammad Akbar, Syed Ali Ahsan, Adil Bashir, Ali Pervaiz, Sikandar Kuli Khan, under the able leadership of Gohar Ejaz and Jawed Iqbal. He said the APTMA delegation convinced the federal ministers on continuous energy supply during the winter to keep exports, jobs and productivity intact in the country.
In this respect, he said, various representations and meetings were held with the high-ups of the government and highlighted the falling textile exports (both yarn & fabric), industry's viability and consequent closure of capacities with a request to restore energy supply to the textile industry across the board. Accordingly, he said, the textile industry delegation has been able to obtain complete exemption from electricity load-shedding in Lesco for the textile industry on independent feeders w.e.f. November 13. Similar arrangements are underway for other Discos which will be notified later on.
He said meetings in Islamabad with the Federal Minister for Commerce, the Federal Minister for Textile Industry and lastly with Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar remained successful who has directed the SNGPL through the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources for immediate withdrawal of the gas suspension programme for the Textile Industry.
Since both the Federal Ministers' for Petroleum & Natural Resources and Water & Power currently abroad in London accompanying the Prime Minister and would be back in two days. It will be followed by another meeting for availability of gas during the winter for securing energy supply for the textile industry's sustainability and growth. He appreciated the support of the APTMA members for achieving a common objective for the best interest of the industry located in Punjab. He said the APTMA delegation had also urged the government functionaries for early announcement of the regionally competitive Textile Policy for 2014-19, enabling the industry to sustain and grow in the long run.
