The first Senate meeting of Sindh Madressat-ul-Islam University (SMIU) was held here on Thursday at Governor House. The meeting presided over by the University's Chancellor, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, approved and endorsed the previous decisions of SMIU's Syndicate. It also approved the university's last two years budget, besides finalising financial matters.
It was attended, among others, by Sindh Education Minister, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, who is also Pro Chancellor of the university, Federal Ombudsman Salman Farooqui. The Senate requested the Sindh government to help resolve financial matters of SMIU. The meeting was informed that the university's special grant of Rs 300 million which was approved by Sindh Finance Department had been sent to Sindh chief minister for approval.
Approving the master plan of SMIU's Malir campus, the Senate with a view to constructing the project as early as possible decided to submit the PC-1 of the master plan to Higher Education Commission. It also decided to initially start classes of the university's schools at the campus from the next academic year. The meeting also requested Sindh government to take up the matter of the university with the federal government for its early completion as it was the alma mater of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. At the outset, Sindh governor said that it was an honour for him to approve the SMIU's charter.
