Members of Senate Standing Committee on Defence Production headed by Chairperson Senate Committee Saeeda Iqbal visited Pakistan Ordnance Factories on Thursday. Chairman Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) Board in his welcoming remarks told the delegation that the POF was the premier defence organisation, which was not only meeting defence needs of the Armed Forces of Pakistan, but also exporting its products to more than 30 countries.
Syed Naseem Raza, Chief Executive Wah Nobel in his detailed briefing told the delegation that the POF is a gigantic complex with 14 directly controlled factories and plants along with 6 subsidiaries whereas total work force is more than 24 thousand. The POFs industrial base is strong enough to develop and produce all types of conventional arms and ammunition. The delegation visited the POF Product Display Lounges, later they were taken to some production units where they witnessed the manufacturing process. The delegation showed a keen interest in the production process of arms and ammunition and lauded high quality of the POF productions.
Presently, 14 different factories are working under the umbrella of the POF Wah. The POF has started few commercial projects such as Brass Mill and Clothing as joint venture with private partners. Earlier, the National Assembly Committee on Defence Production recommended that the POF board should be empowered and separate budget allocation should be made to the Ministry of Defence Production from the Ministry of Defence through the Ministry of Finance & Revenue.
