Farmers in France, the European Union's largest grain producer, have almost finished harvesting this year's maize crop and sowing wheat for next year's harvest, data from farm office FranceAgriMer showed on Friday. As of November 10, farmers had harvested 90 percent of the grain maize area, up from 79 percent a week earlier and well above the 56 percent at this stage during last year's weather-hampered harvest, the data showed.
For next year's harvest, 96 percent of soft wheat had been sown by Monday, against 91 percent a week before and 83 percent a year earlier. In terms of plant development, 84 percent of soft wheat had emerged and 25 percent had now entered the subsequent tillering stage.
