Providing maximum health facilities to Islamabadites: Senate body orders ensuring provision of required resources to Pims, Polyclinic
Senate Standing's Committee on Government Assurances has directed the concerned authorities to extend required resources to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) and Federal Government Services Hospital (Polyclinic) Islamabad for providing maximum health facilities to the citizens of the capital. The Committee has recommended extension of Pims infrastructure and allotting the plot of Argentina Park to Polyclinic for its extension project.
The Committee met here at Parliament's House with Senator Saeed Ghani in the chair. Senator Colonel Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi (Retd) said that the citizens of Islamabad were facing shortage of health facilities. CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal said the plot had been handed over to the government. He said the CDA fully supported the extension of hospitals and recommend that the matter be placed before the cabinet for approval.
The Committee also recommended the government to speed up the construction of District Headquarters Hospital at Terlai Islamabad for which the JICA has already expressed willingness to provide financial resources. The Committee was informed that there was no dearth of financial resources for the proposed hospital, as the government has also made allocation for the purpose under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). The Committee expressed grave concern over delay in development work in Sector I-16 Islamabad and including provision of gas and electricity.
Committee Chairman Senator Saeed Ghani grilled the officials of Sui Northern Gas Company Limited, WAPDA, CDA and district management and police for their failure to complete the development work in Sector I-16 Islamabad despite assurance in the previous meetings of the Committee. The Chairman expressed resentment when the officials told the Committee that they could not remove the encroachments for ensuring water supply.
