Taiwan stocks edged up 0.1 percent on Tuesday as investors continued to stay on the sidelines on concerns the trading link that allows Hong Kong and Shanghai investors buy and sell shares on each other's bourses will draw fund flows away from the Taiwan market. Another concern is that Taiwan's ruling party would lose its mayoral seat in Capital Taipei later this month.
At about 90 minutes into trade, the main TAIEX index was up 0.1 percent at 8,890.37, versus a 1.1 percent drop in the previous session. Tech stocks, the most heavily-weighted sector, was down 0.2 percent, while banks jumped 0.2 percent. The Taiwan dollar rose 0.13 percent to T$30.699 to the US dollar.
