Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that a substantial reduction in the prices of petroleum products will help check price hike. He expressed the confidence that prices of all items would come down. In his remarks after chairing a meeting on energy situation in Islamabad on Wednesday, he said the government is delighted to have brought down the prices of oil to mitigate the sufferings of people.
He said a reduction in oil price would benefit farmers and people living in cities and villages by way of reduction in passenger fares and transportation charges. About agreements signed with China during his recent visit to Beijing, the Prime Minister said these would be a game changer. He said the projects costing billions of dollars would help tackle different problems confronting Pakistan. In this connection, he particularly referred to electricity shortages and said load-shedding would be eliminated forever.
Nawaz said the sponsors of sit-ins wanted no end to loadshedding but he was determined to do so. The Prime Minister declared that the menace of loadshedding would be eliminated during the tenure of the present government. He, however, added that there is no quick fix. Nawaz regretted that the Chinese President had to postpone his visit to Pakistan. He said the Chinese President invited him to visit China to sign bilateral agreements. He said the Chinese President assured him that he would be visiting Pakistan anytime soon.
