Educational scholarships: Minister distributes cheques among 162 students of minority community
The educational scholarships amounting to Rs 30 million are being provided to the talented students of minority community in the Punjab on merit basis. This was informed by Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs and Human Rights Khalil Tahir Sandhu, here on Wednesday at Circuit House while distributing cheques of educational scholarships among the 162 talented students of minority community worth of Rs 1.46 million.
Addressing the ceremony, the minister said that educational scholarships of Rs 30 million had also been provided to the talented students of minority community in the last year by the Punjab government and the same amount of scholarships had also been earmarked for the next year. He said the present government was giving equal rights to the minorities and a number of policies were being followed for their welfare and development.
The minister said the Chief Minister of the Punjab had allocated a fund of Rs 500 million for the uplift schemes of minority's localities in the Punjab out of them Rs 30 million were being spent on the construction of roads and other development schemes in Christian towns of Faisalabad. He thanked the Chief Minister for providing huge funds for the minorities and said it was a great gesture of inter-religion harmony and minorities had proud to be a Pakistani. He also thanked DCO Noorul Amin Mengal for giving special intention on the development of Christian colonies in Faisalabad.
