Sartaj Aziz's controversial statement: PPP submits calling attention notice to National Assembly
Paksitan People's Party (PPP) has submitted a calling attention notice to the National Assembly Secretariat on the remarks of Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, wherein he stated: "Pakistan should not target militants who are not threatening the country's security directly".
PPP MNAs Shazia Mari, Belum Hasnain, Ayaz Soomro, Makhdoom Mustafa Shah and Dr Fahmida Mirza submitted a calling attention notice to the National Assembly Secretariat on Thursday. According to calling attention notice: "We would like to invite the attention of Minister for Defence to a recent statement of Sartaj Aziz, Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, in which he said that Pakistan should not target militants who do not directly threaten the country's security.
Such irresponsible and alarming statement from government side regarding sensitive issue of terrorism is a matter of grave concern for the public. The statement is a clear negation of Pakistan's policy against terrorism and is an effort to spoil the Zarb-e-Azb operation being carried out against militants of all shades. Such un-thoughtful statements gave the world an opportunity to point fingers at Pakistan and doubt the credibility of its efforts to uproot terrorists and terrorism from the country. It is also undermining the resolve of Pakistanis who are willing to fight the militants and militancy in the country. It is an important matter that needs immediate discussion on the floor of the House."
