Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will lead a delegation to participate in the two-day SAARC summit scheduled to be held in Kathmandu, Nepal, from November 26 to 27, 2014. The theme of the Summit is "Deeper Integration for Peace and Prosperity".
According to a Foreign Office statement, Pakistan attaches high importance to SAARC and is committed to the SAARC process.
Pakistan firmly believes that given the resources, SAARC region has the potential to become the engine for global economic growth for the 21st century.
The Foreign Minister of Nepal Mahendra Bahadur Pandey had earlier visited Pakistan on 23 October 2014, as Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of Nepal, to extend invitation to the Prime Minister for participation in the SAARC Summit.
The Summit will be preceded by the preparatory meetings at the Senior Officials and Ministerial level. The Foreign Secretary is presently in Kathmandu to represent Pakistan in the SAARC Standing Committee Meeting, followed by the SAARC Council of Ministers Meeting on 25 November, which will be attended by the Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security & Foreign Affairs.
On the sidelines of the event, the Prime Minister will meet other leaders of SAARC countries to discuss issues of bilateral and regional interest.-PR
