The National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Broadcasting and National Heritage Tuesday recommended that the Board of Governors of Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) would be established soon. The committee which met with Marvi Memon in the chair discussed the working and performance of Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) and Federal Department of Archaeology & Museum, attached department of Ministry of Information, Broadcasting & National Heritage.
During the course of proceeding, the committee suggested the PAL for the establishment of its Board of Governors at the earliest and increase of monthly stipend given to the writers by the PAL from Rs 5,000 to 10,000. The committee further suggested the PAL to take necessary steps for promoting the literature in the country. The Committee also recommended for the introduction of e-books instead of for publication book.
The Committee members asked the PAL to provide complete details of employees/staffs working in PAL province wise. Meanwhile, the Director General, Federal Department of Archaeology and Museum told the Committee that after 18th Amendment the Cabinet issued Notification which stated that among others retained under Federal level functions, ie, the Archaeology, National Museums and Historical Monuments declared to be of National importance and the Federal Agency which perform these functions, ie, the Department of Archaeology and Museums.
However, the said notification of the Cabinet was not implemented yet. The Committee directed the Ministry to resolve the issue in consultation with the Ministry of Law, Justice & Human Rights in accordance with Notification as soon as possible. The meeting was attended by Tahir Iqbal Chaudhry, Muhammad Tallal Chaudhry, Parveen Masood Bhatti, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Syed Amir Ali Shah Jamote, Imran Zafar Leghari and Naeema Kishwer Khan.
