The Bank of Khyber (BoK) is planning to further expand its Islamic banking branch network to provide services to the general public across the country. This was stated by Mufti Muhammad Zahid, Chairman Shariah Supervisory Committee of the Bank of Khyber in the 30th meeting of the committee held at Islamabad on Tuesday.
Apart from Shams ul Qayyum, Managing Director of the bank, the meeting was attended by other members namely Syed Muhammad Abbas, Dr Dost Muhammad Khan, Dr Shahzad Iqbal Sham and Dr Muhammad Ayub. Senior executives of the Bank including Group Head Operations Shabbir Ahmad Sheikh, Acting Group Head Islamic Banking Muhammad Asad and Shariah Advisor Qazi Abdul Samad also attended the meeting.
The committee expressed its satisfaction over smooth working of Islamic Banking operations according to the applicable laws of Islamic Shariah and reiterated its stance to take further steps for promotion of Islamic Banking among the masses. The committee also advised that in formulation of different products and schemes, the Islamic Banking Group must ensure that applicable Islamic laws should not be violated.
The committee further instructed that the Islamic Banking Group must accelerate its efforts to enhance its exposures in different investment avenues so as to generate revenues not only for the institution but its benefits should be trickled down to the general account holders as well. The committee was also informed that at present, 51 Islamic Banking Branches are fully functional in the country whereas by the end of the year 2014, the tally will come to 54.
