The Foreign Office Tuesday said stenotypist Muhammad Tufail Abbasi, in the commercial section in the embassy of Pakistan, Brussels, has been transferred back to the headquarters. "This is a routine transfer matter," Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam clarified in response to questions regarding Muhammad Tufail Abbasi and his son Asim Abbasi after reports claimed that the official was sacked allegedly for damaging the country's reputation.
"Muhammad Tufail Abbasi, stenotypist in the commercial section in the embassy of Pakistan, Brussels, has been transferred back to the headquarters by the Ministry of Commerce on completion of his four-year tenure," the spokesperson said. Abbasi's family was reportedly deported from Brussels after his 22-year-old son Asim Abassi was identified as a 'terrorist' by the Brussels police for carrying his cricket bat on public transport.
According to media reports, a photograph of Asim Abassi, apparently armed with a weapon was circulated by the Brussels police last week generating a terror scare. As soon as Abbasi saw the pictures in a newspaper, he contacted the police to clarify that he was not armed but only carrying his cricket bat on way to a practice session.
