Taiwan stocks were higher Thursday on buying in technology shares, helped by gains in overseas markets. As of 0219 GMT, the main TAIEX index had risen 61.96 points to 9184.35, after closing up 0.07 percent on Wednesday. The electronics subindex was up 0.8 percent, with the semiconductor subindex rising 1.2 percent.
Bellwether foundry TSMC was up 1.4 percent, reaching for a fresh record high. Panelmaker TPK Holding Co Ltd was 3.1 percent higher, trading around highs not seen in nearly three months. The optimism in Taiwan was fuelled by US stocks rising to record levels overnight with the PHLX semiconductor index closing at its highest since June 2001.
