World Wide Fund for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-P) under its Green Skills Project distributed 600 farmer and veterinary tool kits amongst less privileged farming families of Kot Addu and Muzaffargarh in a ceremony held on Thursday. Ahmad Yar Hanjra, MPA was the chief guest of the ceremony. Dr Ghulam Akbar, Senior Director Programmes, WWF-Pakistan, gave a brief overview of the project.
He said that through Green Skills Project, abilities and advancement of 300 trainees was enhanced by training in the field of renewable/ sustainable energy, livestock and after-crop management. The 300 trainees were instrumental in further training of 2,300 farming families, he added.
He further said WWF-P is providing alternate livelihood options to local communities and also sensitising them to conserve natural resources. The programme was carried out as a pilot project in four districts of Punjab (Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Khanewal, and Jhang). The chief guest appreciated the role of WWF-P in empowering communities and further noted that WWF-P's commitment to Pakistan for rural youth is inspiring.
The event was also attended by Anwar Naseem, Senior Director Operations and Corporate Relations WWF-P, Dr Masood Arshad, Senior Manager WWF-P, Adnan Hanif, Senior Manager Operations WWF-P, and Arshia Khurshid, Project Manager Green Skills Project. The project is supported by Fund for Innovative Training, created under TVET Reform Support Programme, which is co-funded by the European Union, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands, the Royal Norwegian Embassy and the Federal Republic of Germany.
