Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Sunday threatened a complete shutdown throughout the country on December 16 if a beleaguered government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif failed to accept his party's demand to investigate the 2013 general elections fraud.
The political battle lines between the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and major opposition political party PTI of Imran Khan were firmly drawn, as Imran delivered a rousing speech at D-Chowk to a mammoth gathering of about 100,000 people - estimated to be the largest ever political gathering in Pakistan's capital.
"I know the people of Lahore are ready...Faisalabad is also ready [and] the people of Karachi, I know they are waiting for me, so let me show them how can we bring the whole country to a complete halt."
According to 'Plan C' of PTI, Imran said he would shut down Lahore on December 04, Faisalabad on December 08, and Karachi on December 12.
"After completely paralysing these major cities, we will show you [Nawaz Sharif] how to shut down the whole country," Imran warned while thanking the fully charged crowed consisting men, women, children and elderly people, for standing by him during for last 109 days of his anti-government sit-in.
He warned that if his demands were not met by December 16, he would unveil his party's 'Plan D', which will completely paralyse government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
"Mian sahib, the ball is in your court and you must act wisely. You assigned the job to Maulana Fazlur Rehman to stop my tigers from reaching Islamabad but you miserably failed, but I'll show how we'll shut down the country," he maintained.
Declaring 2015 as the year of 'New Pakistan', Imran termed the ongoing anti-government sit-ins as the final battle for the young generation of the country.
"Almighty Allah has blessed me with everything. The prime ministers come and go but the way you people take me in such an esteem, perhaps, no premier would ever get such love and respect," he added.
Imran said the government had accepted five of six points of his party. "They'd accepted the five demands except the resignation of Nawaz Sharif but later they backtracked when we said let the PM continue and sit-in will also take place," he added.
In an aggressive tone, he accused both PML-N and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) of joining hands to rig the 2013 polls.
"Mian sahib, if you think building roads could have been the prerequisite for building a nation, then Malik Riaz [a property tycoon] would have been declared the prime minister of Bahria Town," he ridiculed.
SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS
The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration made foolproof security arrangement to avert any untoward incident during the sit-in. About 15,000 security personals were deployed at the venue of the rally.
The city administration deputed security personnel in three tiers and closed D-Chowk by placing containers. Participants were allowed entry through walkthrough gates at three different points leading to the venue. The city administration also conducted a real surveillance of the capital.
However, the police could not maintain the check in as a large of participants from different parts of the country arrived late in the evening and entered the protest venue without anybody search. No clash between the police and protesters was witnessed. At the end of the protest, the participants of the rally peacefully dispersed.
All the city hospitals were put on high alert and ambulances, firefighting vehicles, armoured personnel carrier vehicles, water cannons were also arranged near the protest venue in case of any untoward incident.
