Enforcement of tobacco control laws: national alliance for curbing non-communicable disease formed
A national alliance for curbing the Non-Communicable Disease has been formed in the annual co-ordination meeting of the Coalition for Tobacco Control (CTC-Pak) to effectively enforce tobacco control laws across the country.
According to an announcement of the National Co-ordinator, Coalition for Tobacco Control-Pakistan here on Sunday, the members of the alliance demanded for effective health policies for health on priority and strict compliance of tobacco control laws to control the menace of smokeless tobacco including Gutka, Mainpuri, Naswar etc.
We need to work together for effective public health measures to be in place if we want to protect our generations present and coming from this menace that has destroyed so many families regardless of gender or age.
These views were expressed by Dr Qaiser Sajjad, the Central Treasurer for Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), during the sixth annual national co-ordination meeting. The use of tobacco in any form is directly linked to severe health hazards with respect to the Non-Communicable Diseases including cardiovascular, cancers and chronic respiratory diseases.
Tobacco is the key contributor for heart related diseases including strokes and attacks etc, various types of cancers including throat, lung and abdomen etc and pulmonary and asthma etc to name a few.-PR
