A simple but impressive ceremony was held at Chief Ministers' House Peshawar wherein a new scheme was launched to provide free mobile sets to trained midwives at maternal and child health centers. It was jointly organized by social and charity organisation Rotary Club and Mother and Neonatal Child Health (MNCH) program under the e-Health services.
It is initially begun in Peshawar and Nowshera wherein trained community health workers and midwives would be given free mobile phone sets while later it would also be extended to other districts. It will enable midwives to refer maternity complex cases immediately to the nearest hospital.
MNA Dr Imran Khattak on behalf of Chief Minister inaugurated the scheme by distributing cell phones among trained midwives. He lauded contribution of Rotary Club and other welfare organisations in helping the health department and expressed the hope that such co-operation would be made more comprehensive and integrated to ensure health and reduce mother and child mortality ratio.
He said CM Pervez Khattak could not attend the function due to his inevitable engagement but he (CM) sent the message that a healthy mother and baby, could lead to the new and prosperous Pakistan.
He while eulogising the groundwork for the maternal and child care programs by MNCH program said that the provincial administration of the program and its doctors did a marvellous job by rendering services even to victims of the famine at Tharparkar Sindh and affectees of Waziristan operation and vulnerable infants and mothers of flood victims all over the country which is encouraging.
Dr Imran Khattak on behalf of the Chief Minister announced the appointment of more than 74 new lady doctors and 14 LHVs for maternal and child care maternity centers of the province under this program and explained that the provincial government will remove the lack of staff and facilities in all medical centers.
He said the PTI-led coalition government has taken revolutionary initiatives in maternal and child health than other areas of health care. He said provincial government has introduced the first cash assistance scheme of its kind in maternal and child health that was also adopted by Pakistan and other SAARC countries.
Initially 10 backward districts of KP have been selected to encourage treatment from trained and qualified midwives and maternity centers. Next year the scheme will be extended to all districts too. Under the scheme, pregnant women from pregnancy stages to delivery were being paid Rs 2700 in cash plus other facilities from the last one year. It helped greatly in reducing the maternity diseases and its ratio declined significantly.
