Ukrainian farmers have almost completed the 2014 grain harvest, threshing 62.7 million tonnes of grain from 98 percent of the planted area as of November 27, the agriculture ministry said on Friday. The grain yield averaged 4.33 tonnes per hectare this year compared with 4.06 tonnes a year earlier, it said in a report. It said farmers had harvested 26.2 million tonnes of maize.
The ministry said last month that the harvest of wheat had reached 23.7 million tonnes this year, against 22.3 million tonnes in 2013. It also said then that the barley harvest totalled 9.3 million tonnes. Ukraine harvested 7.6 million tonnes of barley last year. The ministry has expected the harvest of maize could total 30 million tonnes this year versus 30.9 million tonnes in 2013.
