The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Board of Investment and Trade (KP-BoIT) has finalised feasibility for launching rapid bus service in provincial metropolis. The feasibility was already prepared, to lay 25-km long track for Rapid Bus Service from Chamkani Peshawar to Karkhano (Hayatabad). The provincial government is waiting for the approval from federal department to commissioning of the mega transport scheme in Peshawar, says Vice Chairman KP-BoIT, while talking to reporters here other day.
Rejecting reports arising doubtfulness about the project, he said statements attributed to the Ministry of Railways and Defence are also not factual, saying Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has not only supported rather appreciated the project and has assured any kind of co-operation in this regard. "Neither the Ministry of Railways nor the Ministry of Defence has raised any objection on it, he clarified. "There is no need to politicise the RBS, which main notion to provide better transport facilities in provincial capital, he urged. He clarified the project will be no harmful to railway track with laying RBS track.
Accompanied by members of the Board of Directors (BoD) Ghulam Sarwar Khan Mohmand, Mohammad Younas Khan Marwat and Subhan Ejaz, Aziz informed that a total of Rs 14billion has been estimated for laying track of Rapid Bus Service, which will initiate under public-private partnership. He termed the project will be role-model and unique one, while around 100,000 people would take benefit from the transport facility, with nominal fare rates. He said the width of the double carriage RBS route would be 24 feet while at stations it would be 32 feet.
When reporters asked to give timeframe for laying the RBS track, he replied around 14 to 16 months would be required to complete work on the track. About the sanctioning of the RBS project, he said it will take at least two month for approval of the scheme. About obstacles in execution of the RBS project, Aziz said that encroachment mafia and those leasing out lands, are the major hurdle in way of the RBS.
Responding to another question about the overall performance of KP-BoIT for attracting investment in KP, Aziz said the management has been working on three-prong strategy, including conceiving project, identification and execution on the scheme, with support of private sector.
