EOBI scam: Supreme Court constitutes lawyers' body to resolve payment matter amicably

Adjourning the hearing of multibillion Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) scam till December 09 on Wednesday, the Supreme Court formally constituted a committee of lawyers of all the parties involved in the case to resolve the matter of payment amicably. Appearing before a three-judge bench led by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, the incumbent Chairman EOBI expressed inability to evaluate the prices of land, saying that it is impossible at this stage.
To which Justice Mian Saqib Nisar observed that whether this in the plan of the Board of Trustee of the EOBI to get millions of rupees against initial investment of thousands, saying why the Board members should not be summoned before the court in the matter. The bench categorically declared if kickbacks were proved in the matter in hand, the court will not spare anybody involved in the scam. Seeking report form the counsels of the parties in the case on December 06 the bench adjourned the hearing till December 09.
