Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue, Regional Tax Office, Dr Ikram Ghani has said that taxpayers are valuable asset of the country and each and every taxpayer deserves utmost respect from tax officials. It is very important in Pakistan to promote tax culture and to increase mutual confidence between the tax officials and taxpayer, he added.
Addressing the advisory committee in the Conference Hall of Regional Tax Office (RTO), he stressed that it is need of the house that environment of trust and confidence is established between taxpayers and tax collectors. He emphasised that for the development of economy and the country, all of us have to work hard. Whatever we are and we have is because of our country. Taxes should not be considered as a burden rather they should be considered as a contribution to the welfare of society and the country, he said. "We can embark on development and make a respectable place in the community of nations only by contributing our share," he remarked.
The Chief Commissioner assured the tax advisory committee that all the officials of RTO Peshawar will do their best for urgent solutions of taxpayers' complaints. No refund due to taxpayers shall be withheld or delayed. He further said that tax returns selected for audit shall be processed in accordance with law and proceedings will be finalised on merit without causing any undue inconvenience to the taxpayer, he informed.
He requested the chamber to bring all instances of high handedness and inconvenience to the taxpayers to his notice for early resolution of the same. Representatives of chambers and trade bodies voiced their concerns over some provisions of SRO.608, issued by the Federal Board of Revenue, Islamabad. They requested for certain amendments to the said SRO. The Chief Commissioner assured that their suggestions would be forwarded to the concerned quarters.
