"There is an acute need to promote competence and opportunity in women for the progression of Pakistan," said Tahira Raza President First Women Bank Ltd (FWBL) in an interview with a private TV. Keeping in view that women constitute 52pc of Pakistan's population. FWBL is being further strengthened to serve this large market segment and other institutions are coming forward to serve the needs of the Pakistani women.
Responding to a question she said that women participation in the financial sector can only be improved if impediments hampering their access to these services are removed. She said the women largely have mobility hurdles; therefore mobile banking and biometric identification are tools to address such issues which the industry is now actively focusing upon. She elaborated that facilitating women's participation in every walk of life will improve the pace of economic growth and bring prosperity to the country.
Raza explained that women entrepreneurs are in fact stronger as they have to face social restrictions in addition to confronting complex challenges of entrepreneurship to make their businesses successful.
The President of FWBL stated that 24 years ago when FWBL was set up, the bank had to develop the market by offering skill & entrepreneurship development programs to enable women access to banking services, however now various national and international organisations are offering a number of similar programs therefore, FWBL is switching its focus from offering training to providing financial products.
She also said that the awareness to include women in all spheres of life is very encouraging. The 33 percent women participation in the assemblies, 50 percent share for women in PMLY Loan scheme are just a few examples to quote in which women's participation has been strongly emphasised. First Women Bank Ltd (FWBL) is the leading Bank for Women that are dynamic, adaptive and responsive to their special economic needs, offering the best financial services and the best banking practices. FWBL has the mission to be a financially sustainable bank with a specialised focus on promoting economic prosperity and self-reliance in women of urban and rural areas of Pakistan.-PR
