The three-day Chief of Naval Staff Amateur Golf Championship 2014 will get underway here at the magnificent and stimulating, par-72 Royal Palm Golf and Country Club Golf Course from Friday (December 5). Commodore S.M. Shahzad, Station Commander, Pakistan Navy said this in a press conference that was addressed by Omer Mir, Jameel Khalid and Khawaja Pervaiz Saeed here Wednesday.
S. M. Shahzad further said, "This is the fourth championship in succession managed by the Pakistan Navy for the benefit of golf champions and the upcoming talented golf players of the country". In this event, the golf players seeking participating joy and glory will come forward and demonstrate their playing skills and ability. He added that through continuity, this championship has attained an admirable and revered status and is regarded as an eminent championship of the national golf calendar.
Jameel Khalid spelled out that for the amateur golfers in the Men's category, eligibility criteria for this championship is that only players with a handicap of twelve and below are eligible to participate. This restriction ensures that only the talented and established golf players combing the national golf circuit will get a chance to show their prowess, he said, adding: "In this way the less accomplished ones are weeded out and success stories revolve around those champions who can hit the ball rather powerfully off the tees, consistently hit accurate fairway shots and thereby bring forth scores that reflect a touch of excellence.
Khawaja Pervaiz Saeed stated that in this championship, some leading and established names of our national golf circuit who are competing for this title are Mohammad Rehman and Mohsin Zafar (Royal Palm), Tariq Mahmood (Islamabad) Ghazanfar Mehmood, Khalid Mehmood (Rawalpindi), Zulfiqar Ali and Ashiq Hussain (Multan), Salman Jehangir and Wazir Ali (Lahore Gymkhana).
