Punjab Agriculture Department (PAD) has advised the growers of 'grams' crop to pay special attention on eradication of weeds from their fields as fast pace growth of weeds is witnessed because of high moisture. It may lead to reduction in the yield, said a spokesman of the department here on Friday.
The spokesman also advised the growers to carry out first watering of the crop after 45 days of sowing and second water at the time of flowering. He also said that those who had sown their crop in September should apply water to their fields as per need. The spokesman said that the provincial government had fixed the target of sowing grams at 2.224 million acres of land for the year 2014-15, crop with an estimated production of 650,000 tons.
The spokesman said eradication of weeds and control on pests was utmost necessary to get a good produce of grams crop. He advised the growers to use pesticides in consultation with agricultural expert of their respective area if attack of pests crosses threshold. He further advised them to carry out pest scouting regularly.
