Madam Naureen Aziz Qureshi, Vice Chancellor GC Women University Faisalabad visited Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) and other leading business houses of the town, said Engr Rizwan Ashraf president FCCI.
Talking to Vice Chancellor Naureen Aziz in his office, he said that academia always lead industry and industry follow it. But in Pakistan, this formula has been reversed and this negative attitude has not only stopped the process of industrialisation but also pushed it into declining mode.
The President said that minimum percentage of GSP has been earmarked for the education. He stressed the need to re-fix and redefine our priorities as it was our investment in future. He said that in developed countries primary education was free and mandatory whereas higher education was very expensive. The parents denying education to their children are punished, he said. He appreciated the uniform education for all and said that children living in a specific circumference have to attend the school of this area.
Quoting statistics, he said that in Pakistan only 6 percent students have reached to university level education while 94 percent population falling within the bracket of 17-23 years have never entered into any university. He also proposed updating of curricula in addition to concentrating more on technical instead of conventional education. In this connection, he demanded induction of FCCI office-bearers in various regulatory and supervisory board and syndicates of the public sector universities for giving their continuous input on updating of the syllabus of various subjects.
Engr Rizwan Ashraf also welcomed the establishment of Endowment Fund to give scholarships to needy and deserving students of the Government College Women University and offered to launch a fund raising campaign to increase its seed money. Naureen Aziz Qureshi Vice Chancellor GC Women University Faisalabad briefed him about the various steps taken by the Punjab government for the promotion of education and said that other stakeholders should also contribute their role with a special focus on female education.
She also assured to immediately issue orders to include President FCCI in Academic Board of the GCWU. She said that Promotion for Education in Pakistan (PEP) is organising a national seminar on Industry-Academic Liaison in GCWU. During this seminar a MoU would also be inked for the establishment of endowment fund with seed money of Rs 1 million. She also invited Rizwan Ashraf to attend this seminar and hoped that it would help in carving out a viable strategy for the promotion of Industry-Academia relationship.
