District administration here on Saturday imposed a ban on motorcycle riding to maintain law and order, and provide security cover to vaccinators during polio campaign in the provincial metropolis. To avoid any untoward incident during the one day polio drive in Peshawar, the administration imposed Section 144, banning motorcycle riding due to security reasons. The ban would start from 9am till 5pm.
According to the Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Zaheerul Islam, one-day polio campaign will commence today (Sunday), during which more than 700,000 children will be vaccinated. He said that the ban has been imposed on motorcycle riding in the city amid security concerns. Moreover, the DC has directed police to take stern action if anyone violates the ban.

Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria are the only three countries in the world where polio remains endemic. During polio drives in Pakistan, over a dozen polio workers and policemen have so far been killed in line of duty.
