In order to avoid criticism by the consumers, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has announced to hold a public hearing on December 11 on a plea that was submitted by K-Electric for monthly Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) in Islamabad instead of Karachi.
According to sources, a plea that was submitted before the regulatory body by K-Electric for the reduction of 74 paisa per unit on account of FCA for the month of October 2014. The consumers and stakeholders have expressed their concern over the decision of the regulatory body to hold hearing in Islamabad instead of Karachi, saying the matter pertains to Karachi and the public hearing should be held in the city instead of Islamabad.
They said, "Consumers and shareholders are in Karachi, but hearing is arbitrarily being held in Islamabad, as such they will not be able to go Islamabad for submission of their objections. Whereas if the hearing was conducted in Karachi, the citizens would have availed opportunity to submit their complaints/objections in this regard," On the other hand, a spokesman for K-Electric in a statement has said that the plea had been submitted before the authority to consider reduction in fuel mix prices for providing relief and benefits to the consumers of the power utility.
