All segments of society including women should be brought into national mainstream to speed up the pace of socio-economic uplift, said Engr Rizwan Ashraf President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI). Addressing a seminar on "Act for protection of women against harassment at workplaces", he said that women are 52 percent of our population.
"We should ensure peaceful and harassment-free environment in order to attract maximum women in various government as well as private offices and workplaces. The seminar was organised by the Employer's Federation of Pakistan here on Thursday in FCCI. Appreciating proposed amendments in this Act, he stressed a massive and convincing initiative to educate people and bring positive behavioural changes in our society. This Act will not only bring qualitative improvements in our social values but also help in enhancing the over all productivity of the society.
Shahrukh Abbasi director, Directorate of Protection against harassment of women at workplace of the Federal Ombudsman said that before the enactment of this act, harassment of women was a social evil but now it has become a crime. He said that directorate has so far registered 192 complaints out of which only 15 were related to the private organisations. He further said that reform act for the protection against harassment of person at workplace is being introduced to replace the earlier act. He further said that there are no regional offices of this directorate which are expected to be set up during next year after the release of necessary funds. These would help grieved persons to lodge their complaints in their respective provinces. Nadeem Allahwala senior vice president, Innam Afzal Khan vice president FCCI, Khawaja Kamal of Employer's Federation of Pakistan and a consultant Momina Randhawa also addressed the seminar.
