The Central Executive Committee of Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA)has urged upon the government to review its cotton procurement policy and purchase at least 2 million bales of cotton of all grades through Trading Corporation of Pakistan(TCP).
The meeting was chaired by Haji Hafeez Anwar and addressed by Former Chairman Haji Muhammad Akram, Mukhtar Ahmed Khan Baloch, Haji Muhammad Ibrahim, Masud Majeed,Amanullah Qureshi, Vice-chairman Ramesh Lal, Rao Sadaruddin, Khawaja Muhammad Iqbal, Muhammad Arshad President of BCCI, Shehzad Ali Khan, Sheikh Asim Saeed, Khalid Hanif Khan Lodhi,Mian Javed Tariq, Chaudhry Waheed Akhtar, Haji Muhammad Afzal,Muhammad Naeem, Khwaja Atiq-ur-rehman, Haresh Kumar, Ghulam Mustafa Khandwa, Haji Muhammad Younas ,Rana NaveedAhmed, Chaudhry Naeem Ahmed, Chaudhry Khalid Rafiq, Sheikh Muhammad Ayyub, Ashiq Ali Babur Rehmani, Khalil Ahmed Aliani, Athar Ghafoor, Haji Muhammad Bilal, and Asif Khalil. The CEC suggested that government should not purchase cotton at the price of Rs 6864 per maund, instead it should purchase all grades of cotton on market rates but the volume of procurement should not be less that 2 to 2.5 million bales. Otherwise it would have serious repercussions and both the cotton growers as well as ginners would be bankrupted. They demanded a high-level inquiry into the purchase plan 2014 of TCP at Rs 6,864.
