The weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) inflation increased by 0.05 percent during the week ended December 11, 2014. The provisional data, released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, shows that the SPI for the week under review was recorded at 211.25 points against 211.15 over the same period of last year. The SPI inflation decreased by 0.40 percent this week as compared to the previous week, coming down from 212.10 points to 211.25 points.
The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-2008=100, covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups. The SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs 8,000 registered an increase of 0.26 percent during the week under review as compared to the same period last year. During the week, average prices of seven items registered an increase, while that of 17 registered a decrease. The prices of 29 essential items remained the same during the week under review.
The 7 essential items, which registered increase in prices during the week under review included tomatoes, pulse moong washed, wheat, chicken live, garlic, kerosene oil and beef. The 17 items, which registered decrease in prices during the week under review included potatoes, onions, eggs , gur, pulse gram washed, sugar, pulse mash washed, LPG cylinder 11kg, bananas, pulse masoor washed, vegetable ghee loose, cooking oil tin, rice basmati broken, rice irri-6 (Punjab/Sindh), vegetable ghee tin, red chilli powder loose and wheat flour bag.
