Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that an agreement has been reached for the construction of Pakistan's first Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute and Research Centre in Lahore and the Punjab government will provide a huge amount of Rs 13 billion for it.
He expressed these views during a meeting with Board of Governors of Punjab Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute and Research Centre, which was led by its President Dr Saeed Akhtar, held here on Friday, disclosed an official. At the meeting, details of the project were discussed. It was also agreed to start work immediately and speedily over the construction of the institute.
Talking to the Board of Governors, the CM said the Punjab government had allocated 50 acres of land for the institute in the Knowledge Park. "The provincial government will provide a huge amount of Rs 13 billion for the construction of the institute and provision of facilities," he added.
According to him, the hospital will consist of 750 beds while medical college, nursing college and medical university would also be set up. An independent and autonomous Board of Governors has been set up for Punjab Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute and Research Centre to look after financial and administrative affairs. Poor and destitute patients will be provided free medical facilities in this institute.
He said there was need to work with national spirit for early completion of the project, adding Punjab government would continue to provide all out assistance for the completion of the project as early as possible. BoGs President Dr Saeed Akhtar said the project would be implemented speedily and transparently in accordance with the vision of CM Shahbaz Sharif and would be executed as early as possible.
Advisor to CM on Health Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Parliamentary Secretary for Health Khawaja Imran Nazir, MPA Nadia Aziz, Chief Secretary, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Chairman Planning and Development and Secretary Higher Education, concerned authorities were present on the occasion.
