KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak approved additional funds of Rs 500 million for starting work on sports grounds at Tehsil level across the province, and directed for floating tenders of the pre-planned 46 play grounds immediately and starting construction work on it in the earliest.
While, he was chairing a progress review meeting about construction of Tehsil level play grounds at his office CM Secretariat Peshawar. Besides others the meeting was attended by provincial minister for sports and tourism Amjad Khan Afridi, Chief Secretary Amjad Ali Khan, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Muhammad Ishfaq Khan, Secretary Sports Dr Aftab Akbar Durrani and DG Sports Mian Adil Iqbal.
The authorities said that Rs 1007.00 million have been allocated for the first phase of the construction of 40 sports grounds off the total 75 tehsil headquarters of the province during the current fiscal year. However Rs 500 million has been released to the sports directorate yet. Hence realising the financial constraints in timely execution of these schemes, the Chief Minister directed for further release of Rs 500 million for the purpose.
The authorities assured that tenders of 46 tehsil level sports grounds were being advertised within couple of days following release of the sufficient amount while all these schemes would be completed in six months period by June next for sure. They also said that construction works would be started on 12 sports grounds at state land, 15 grounds on land of schools and colleges while 19 on purchased lands due to non-availability of state and schools plots.
In the first phase the Tehsil level sports grounds comprising 40 kanals each would have a pavilion, cricket, volley ball and hockey grounds while basket ball, volley ball, squash, badminton and table tennis courts would be constructed in the next phase wherein Rs 3700 million have been allocated for the purpose. Similarly all the remaining tehsils would be given the sports grounds schemes in the next ADP.
KP CM said that promotion of sport and construction of modern stadiums was among top priorities of PTI-led coalition government while our party chairman Imran Khan also took keen interest in the cause of sport and healthy activities among the youth Pervez Khattak said that construction of sports grounds at union council level would be our next target after completion of Tehsil level sports grounds. Hence the sports authorities would have to focus attention on ensuring timely and quality completion of these schemes, he added.
He also underlined the need of a well conceived strategy for promotion of sports at school, college and university level besides, launching talent hunt programs and expressed the confidence that fruitful results would be accrued of such concerted efforts. He said that sports and healthy activities were essential for physical and mental health of youth whereas the concerned authorities must realise this fact and work hard to achieve the set goals.
