Model Customs Collectorate (MCC), Hyderabad, on Friday claimed to have foiled a bid to smuggle large quantity of contraband goods during its anti-smuggling drive. Official sources said that the goods were seized following an information that some unscrupulous elements were planning to transport huge quantity of smuggled goods to upcountry through passenger trains.
The staff of anti-smuggling organisation, Hyderabad, mounted a surveillance to monitor suspicious movement at the railway station. The sources said that the department had established number of cases and seized substantial quantity of smuggled goods. The anti-smuggling organisation, Larkana, on the reports of increased traffic of contraband smuggled goods through cargo vans of passenger trains to upcountry seized smuggled motorcycles, auto parts, blankets, tyres and carpets. Moreover, the official sources said that the market value of the seized goods was estimated to be around Rs 4 million. Legal proceedings have been initiated and further investigation was underway, they maintained.
